Body mass index (BMI)

Body Mass Index (BMI) shows the relation between the weight and height of an adult by calculating the body weight in KG by the height in square meters. BMI measures four classes of weight: under weight, normal, overweight and obesity. BMI was was created by Adolphe Quetelet in the 1800s and started to be used as an international standard for weight measurement in the 1970s.
